Sinopsis

After the death of her mother, Inés moves with her father, Eudald, to a remote village in the Pyrenees of Huesca in the 1970s. Eudald, a quantity surveyor by profession, has been hired to move a church from an abandoned village to a new ski slope built a few kilometres away. While Eudald immerses himself in his work, Inés begins to explore the mysterious surroundings. She soon discovers that this place is steeped in magic and ancestral legends that still whisper among the mountains, which will lead her to see life, and also death, in a different way.

Nota de intención

El desencanto is a short film that intertwines life and death with mysticism and folklore through the story of Inés, a girl who is not afraid of death. Set in a village in the Aragonese Pyrenees in the 1970s, the short film reflects the collective memory of a place facing abandonment, presenting a costumbrista tone that captures the local culture and intermingles with magical elements.

The plot, based on real events that took place in Huesca between 1972 and 1974, narrates the transfer of the pre-Romanesque church of San Urbás and San Miguel de Basarán to the Formigal ski resort. The director’s personal connection with the Pyrenees and her fascination with the Serrablo churches have been sources of inspiration for this project.

Death, a central theme in the short film, is influenced by the loss of the director’s father and is reflected in local folklore, especially in the Leyenda de las Lumbretas and the festival of the Corrida de la Falleta. With this project, Marta seeks to explore how death can become a bridge to the mystical and the eternal.
