Synopsis
Toni is a Spanish immigrant who makes a living as a fake gypsy performing all kinds of improvised spells and exorcisms for the inhabitants of New York. She shares an apartment in Brooklyn with her little son Austin, 3, and her extravagant friend Savannha. The unexpected arrival from Philadelphia of her friend Regan once again confronts Toni with the problems of her past, which will turn into a nightmare when her friend disappears with the child.
Intent note
No Ghost Inside is my first film shot entirely in English, although to do so I focus on the immigrant communities, of very different origins, that give life to New York, with special interest in those most marginalized, as in the case of Máxima and Nirvana, two Latin prostitutes in a situation of social exclusion, with a fluid sexual identity (fluid gender first, transsexual woman second), who contribute their own experience to the film, through characters that mix with his own real life.
No Ghost Inside is a film that is part of the tradition of American independent cinema that connects references from the past (Hal Hartley, Richard Linklater…) with names like Sean Baker or Harmony Korine, all with an irredeemably Hispanic touch, both for its theme as well as the look of the director and the leading actress.
